Futsal is the only form of indoor soccer endorsed by FIFA. It earned the status of FIFA’s official form of indoor soccer in the 1980s, as it was recognized as a scaled down version of outdoor soccer played indoors.
It is a 5 v 5 small-sided game played on a hard surfaced, basketball sized court with a smaller, heavier low bounce ball. Futsal is played with touchline boundaries and without walls.
This is the game that outdoor soccer players around the globe. They play to refine and maintain their control skills, touch and technical ability. It is superior to wall soccer in terms of developing skills and technique because in traditional American wall soccer, players regularly strike the ball against the boards which promotes improper technique, as well as rewards errant play. In Futsal, players are constantly reminded to play the same quality control game that is required for success in the outdoor game.
Welcome to the Susa Futsal Academy. We are excited to embark upon a new winter of training and developing players on the court as they further their soccer skills via the compelling game of Futsal.
The goal of the Futsal Academy program is to develop the players soccer skills to new heights via training, participation in Long Island Futsal League and the US Futsal Northeast Regional. Futsal is the only FIFA recognized indoor soccer game, also known as “Five-a- Side”, it is played on an indoor hard-surface court with four field players and a goalkeeper. Futsal is credited worldwide as the game which has developed technical skills in some of the world’s greatest soccer players.
The sport is a great skill developer as it demands quick reflexes, fast thinking, and pin-point passing. The small, heavier Futsal ball requires players to hone their ball-striking and dribbling technique. Great soccer superstars such as Pele, Zico, Ronaldo, Messi, Kaka and Katia grew up playing the game and credit Futsal with developing their skills. At the Susa Futsal Academy, we are excited to continue to enhance our players technical proficiency, tactical understanding in small group settings, decision making in a fast paced environment, and ability to make quick key adjustments through out the course of a game.
Training will be held on on non-turf training nights starting in December and running until the US Futsal Regional event in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
We will use several facilities to train from 6:00pm – 9:00pm, one hour training sessions per age group each training date. The training times will be determined by the number of teams formed with the youngest players training the earliest time slot and the oldest players training later that night.
US Futsal Northeast Regional event is the largest Futsal competition east of the Rocky Mountains held in the
Atlantic City Convention Center in New Jersey
The event is Presidents Week in February with games starting Friday afternoon, playing Saturday and Sunday. Some playoff games could be on Monday depending on the individual age group.
The winner of the Regional event qualifies for the US Futsal National Championships that occur in July.
