SUSA Makes Some Noise

After a long and hard NPL season 12 NYCSL NPL clubs traveled to Grand Park, Indiana to participate in the NPL Finals which culminated on July 17. The 12 teams had a very good showing at the event, with 4 GIRLS teams making it out of the group stage round !
Leading the way representing NYCSL was SUSA FC with 3 GIRLS teams (2003,2001, 1999/98) making it to the Semi Finals as well as QUICKSTRIKE FC (2000).
SUSA FC wasn’t finished yet……After winning the 2003 & 2001 Semi Final games SUSA FC NPL 2001 claimed its first club National Championship, by beating a very tough South Shore Select team 2-0. The 2003 team lost in double overtime to South Shore Select 2-1.
Moussa Sy, President of SUSA FC commented “”The 2017 NPL national championship was an exciting event for our club.  While the very nature of any championship brings its own level of excitement, the high quality of the game fields, facility staging and competition made lifting the NPL Championship Cup an event with special meaning.  Our club had three girls NPL teams win their respective league titles to qualify for the NPL National Championship, with our 2001 Girls crowned NPL National Champions, 2003 Girls crowned NPL National Finalist, and our 1999/1998 Girls advancing to the NPL National semi-finals.  Our girls played opponents from all across the country (California, Arizona, Texas, Florida, Massachusetts) and the national significance of the event brought additional excitement and life to the competition.  This event was an experience of a lifetime for our players and we are grateful for our membership to US Club Soccer and the opportunities provided as a result of our membership.”
It was with great honor that we were able to represent the New York Club Soccer League at the pinnacle of the National Premier League competition. We are looking forward to next year.
John Curtis NYCSL DIRECTOR of COACHING said ” The league is very proud of all teams who represented the NYCSL NPL at such a prestigious event. They perform excellently all weekend and we’re delighted that next summer, additional NYCSL teams will have the opportunity to get involved with US Club Soccer’s ENPL competitions”
